Toshiyasu Ogawa was born on January 1, 1911 in Hiroshima, Japan. He attended Koryo Chugakkou high school and Keio University before signing with the Osaka Tigers in 1936. Appearing in 11 games in the Spring season, the 25-year-old catcher batted .477 with nine RBIs. During the fall season he hit .287 in 31 games with 21 RBIs.

A promising professional career came to an end at the conclusion of the season as Ogawa entered military service and died in combat in China.
